About R-view

R-view contains some real short reviews of some of the movies I've liked over the years. Most of them are 140 character posts as they used to be my tweets (@mrzoozoo) This blog was created for (the purpose of showing off my INSANE movie review skills :p) some class assignment purposes. So don't frown if you don't find enough text in there to make you like or watch the movie. Hey you can always Google! :)

R-view 140: Band Baaja Baaraat

FUN! Yash Raj Films does wot they are damn good at. Feel-good. Usual stuff though. The Salim-Sulaiman duo scores like never before. Maneesh Sharma debuts good.

R-view 140: My Left Foot

Biographical. Wonderful to know that its a true story. Watch out for the 'Mother' sequence. Daniel Day-Lewis***** Must-watch.

R-view 140: Department 36

French. As a friend said, we should remake it in Malayalam with the two pillar figures sometime. Out and out good cop-bad cop movie. Mixed emotions. Dark.

R-view 140: No One Killed Jessica

Part truth part tricky. Both Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan runs the show well, in their respective halves. Thrilling background score and hauntingly beautiful soundtrack. Must-watch.

R-view 140: Nadunisi Naigal

Gautam Menon's tribute to PsychoDint know that a movie could be such a turn-off. Brilliant characters and back stories. Manoj Paramahamsa at the cam excels  in all those night shots. A bit of the Korean serial killer flick Chaser somewhere there.

R-view 140: Salt

Liked the movie better from the point where Salt dyes her hair black. Nothing much. Felt like a hangover of all those slick US spy movies.

R-view 140: The Siege

A serious movie, finally! Frightening, they made it before the actual 9/11. Engaging and very convincing. Denzel Washington*****

R-view 140: What Happens In Vegas

Ashton Kutcher looks good after a long time. Cute. That's all. Fun movie with the usual rom-com stuff. Yes we have seen this one before and way before.

R-view 140: Grease

Defines the 'cult movie' genre. Musical. Travolta goin all cheesy and shaking the leg like crazy. Entertaining.

R-view 140: 13

Remake of the minimalistic French neo-classic 13 Tzameti. But unfortunately the new version is shiny, too detailed and even has Jason Statham walking around doing nothing!

R-view 140: Aakrosh

Allegedly the rip-off of Mississippi Burning. But Aakrosh is true to its plot. Fast paced, (literal) masala action sequences, Ajay Devgan at his raw-best etc. Gritty.

R-view 140: Bose: The Forgotten Hero

Worst biographical movie Ive ever seen, I believe. The only movie on the legendary hero? Sachin Khedekar as Bose looks convincing. Too pretentious a plot and way too dramatic. Background score by A.R. Rahman in parts light up the otherwise boring visuals.

R-view 140: Arjunan Saakshi

Started off as a very promising mystery thriller, but fell back to the oft-tracked path. Looks slick and if polished, Ranjith Sankar could and will shine better. Socially relevant? Nops, too cliched.

R-view 140: Jhootha Hi Sahi

Too much of American TV sitcom humour and cheesy Rom-Com flicks can result in something like this! John excelled as the geek and some of the one liners were hilarious. But from the director of the highly entertaining Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na? Fails miserably, Friends!.

R-view 140: Aadukalam

Was reminded of Subramaniapuram, Paruthiveeran and Pudhupettai. But a fresh plot from the rural milieu of Madurai with detailed characters, melodious music and steady cinematography. Too much D.I. was a turn off. Dhanush and his 'big cock' steals the show! Must-watch.

R-view 140: Dhobi Ghat

Prateik is the (f)ace, a brand new one and it works. Painfully slow in parts. A powerful second half towards the ending. Lacks a proper climax. A hit or miss. Aamir underplays, charming.

R-view 140: Rakht Charitra II

Would have worked better if it was released along with the Part I. RGV returns as the director who made Phoonk, Contract and Aag with not much plot to play with and hence the crazy camera movements. Surya is almost wasted, with his extreme close-up eye shots, 5.5 packs, wanna be cool one liners etc. Exact same plot as the first part. The narrative starts sounding creepy!
